TUCCO is developing a biofouling prevention system based on proprietary, patented IP, using autonomous underwater drones equipped with UVC light banks.

How does it work

Biofouling is a colossal problem for every kind of sea-faring vessel. It causes fuel inefficiency, hull deterioration, loss of speed. In order to fight it, more than 100 bln USD are spent yearly worldwide, and billions more add up in inefficiencies and extra costs and pollution.

How does it work

Our system reduces the incidence of biofouling via preventing its formation: our autonomous drones activate while the vessel is stationary, and navigate and irradiate every square cm of the submerged part of the hull with a finely-modulated dose of UVC rays.

How does it work

These kill the bacteria and algae substratum – biofilm – that is needed for the bigger organism to adhere to the vessel, resulting in much slower accumulation of biofouling, and by consequence reduced maintenance and fuel costs, and a lower carbon footprint.
